As the longest day of 2014 came to a gentle close a fantastic solar pillar illuminated the sky over English Bay Vancouver. On the day of the summer solstice the light pillar marked the northern most setting point for the sun as seen from downtown Vancouver. Sunset was at 9:21 PM with twilight lasting nearly to sunrise the next day at 5:07 AM.
