Last weekend Vancouver had their largest yearly race - the Sun Run.
It's a huge event.
Along with the occasional eagle or two the race attracts 50,000 plus people who, huffing and puffing their way along the route run in the biggest 10k run in North America.
This year's race one was totally magical. The early morning of the day of the race arrives and the weather sucks. It's cold. The sky is overcast. Rain hast just died off but is still threatening a cold and wet return. Grrr.
Then, as if on queue, the rain stops. The clouds part, the sun blasts down on the Sun Run and, right on time the race starts.
Four hours later the run has ended and again magic happens. The sky becomes dark and brooding (this picture) and, to help out the street cleaners, the rain returns. Totally cool.

Sirrus loves her scratching pads. Great for working out the old claws and scratching the chin.
At the same time no less.

As if on queue a pair of eagles circles over the corner of Beach and Thurlow in Vancouver's West End as the annual Sun Run kicks into gear. Here's a close view of the female eagle being harrased by one of the local seaguls. The symbolism of the moment was, of course pretty much mind blowing. Mind blown. #mindblown

On June 13 1886 what was then Vancouver quickly burned to the ground thanks to an out of control land clearing brush fire that ... well ... got out of control. The fire became known as "The Great Vancouver Fire" and proved to be a moment that, fortunately, has not been repeated.
127 years later a meandering walk through Stanley Park's rhododendron garden, even in black and white, proves that the city has recovered quite well thank very much.
